Tiraspol, December 20. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Due to the global and regional geopolitical situation, the risk of a recurrence of the acute energy crisis in Pridnestrovie remains. This was stated by PMR president Vadim Krasnoselsky in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The mechanism for natural gas supplies to Pridnestrovie, established this year, is facing a number of obstacles. For example, at the end of November, further difficulties arose with gas payments within the European Union. However, according to Vadim Krasnoselsky, all necessary measures are being taken to resolve the situation and restore previous supplies.
"The risk of a reduction in the payment rate to a critical level has increased. This will result in a reduction in natural gas supplies and the possibility of insecurity. All parties and participants are taking measures to restore normal supply. However, given the current geopolitical situation, the risk of a recurrence of the acute phase of the energy crisis, unfortunately, remains," the PMR president said. As a reminder, last year, on December 11, 2024, a state of economic emergency was declared in Pridnestrovie due to the risk of gas supply disruption. On January 1, due to unsettled financial relations between Gazprom and Moldovagaz and the lack of transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, gas supplies to Pridnestrovie ceased.
As a result, gas supplies to industrial enterprises, rural communities, and private households in cities were cut off in Pridnestrovie for over a month. Heating and hot water supplies were also interrupted, while rolling blackouts were imposed. In February, thanks to assistance from the Russian Federation, gas supplies were restored through purchases on the European gas market.
However, due to difficulties with settlement transactions within the European Union, gas supplies to Pridnestrovie are regularly blocked. This occurred in June and October 2025. A similar situation has arisen now.
